My Skoda Octavia has lost all of its odd numbered gears. Skoda originally said it was the mechatronic unit and agreed to change it for a nominal fee even though the car was almost a year out of warranty. This however has failed to correct the problem. They now say it needs a new gearbox but their goodwill offer is nowhere near as generous and I am facing a very large bill.

The DQ200 is rated for a maximum torque of 250 Nm, and I know the 1.8 TSI engine is tuned to ensure that torque rating is not exceeded. In fact, VAG have gone the other way and had started mating the DQ200 gearbox with their 1.5 L diesel engines in the Vento/Rapid (not sure if both, or just the Vento).

If you do the drain - measure - refill method then you need 5x 1 litre bottles. Drain the oil out (with it hot) and if you get 4.5 litres out then refill with 4.5 litres plus 0.10
The DSG gearbox is an automated Manual, and in some cases can be problematic. There was a service action from Skoda where they change the Oil in the box and an ECU update which is supposed to fix

Answered by Honest John. It will be a DQ500 seven-speed dual wet clutch DSG. Better than the old DQ250 six-speed dual wet clutch DSG, but can still be sluggish and frustrating to drive. It needs fresh oil and a filter every three years or 38k miles but is nothing like as problem prone as dry clutch DQ200. Tags: gearboxes automatic cars dsg gearbox.
UPDATE Not good news, the car was booked in at Skoda Stourbridge today for a gearbox oil change and clutch adaption/reset. They've just rang me back saying there would be no point in replacing the oil or doing the clutch adaption as the clutch has disintegrated and there are some broken couplings in the gearbox, cost to repair £1300 plus VAT.
